Regardless of which kit you select, you may also need some items that reflect your own choices for fit, budget, etc.
There are two main types of headsets – Passive Protection and Active Noise Reduction (Noise Canceling). There are also specialized Commercial Headsets that you can learn about below.
Passive Headsets provide an earcup that blocks a lot of the noise and gives basic protection for your hearing. They are generally the most basic type of headset and are typically the least expensive.
Active Noise Reduction Headsets are essentially Noise Canceling Headsets and dramatically reduce the background noise in the cockpits. This provides a much quieter noise floor and enables clearer communication, less fatigue, and protects your hearing. Some of these come with very useful features such as Bluetooth to connect cell phones and iPads (for phone calls and for certain advanced navigation features).
Professional/Commercial Headsets are usually very lightweight and are for use in quiet turbine (jet) cockpits. They can be great headsets for commercial pilots who do not need a great deal of noise protection, but they will NOT work in small, piston engine planes such as Cessnas and Pipers, etc. Additionally, most of these are "TSO'd" which means that the FAA has certified them for use in commercial airliners.
Flight Bags come in a many sizes and shapes. We often counsel our customers not to get a bag that is too big for his/her needs. So consider starting small enough for the essentials such as Headset, Transceiver, Kneeboard, iPad, charts, etc.
If your Headset comes with a nice headset bag, you might also consider clipping it to the outside of the bag with a carabiner, so that you don't need a larger flight bag just to fit your headset.

Please check the details of the headset that you are buying. Many headsets already come with a headset bag. If yours doesn't, you may want to buy one to protect your headset.
A Handheld Transceiver can be a life-saving back-up in the event of an intercom outage. These have different features such as Communication-Only, Navigation/Communication, and even basic GPS.
If you're considering having an iPad in your cockpit, make sure you choose the right size and mount style to meet your flight needs. We carry both iPad mounts and iPad kneeboards so you can keep your iPad within reach.
iPad GPS units come with a wide array of features. It is important to spend some time examining which features are useful to you and the type of flying you do, so that you buy what you need, and don't spend money for features you'll never use. These GPS units are critical even if your iPad has a built-in GPS.
